ok here's mr. killjoy again, but this is what i meant with having pretty much choked on this kind of wittinesses. it's everywhere, and there's no real shock value / amazement&realization anymore
there's a book by neil postman called 'amusing ourselves to death', haven't read it, but the title just came to mind, AS IT HAPPENS

yeah, there's no shock value in that, nor amazement and realization. nor does the sticker give you free marshmallows :(
fucking wit everywhere. fuck it all

Joonas: Losing the ability to enjoy wit, just because you see it everywhere, is a sure sign that you're becoming an adult. Next thing you know, you won't just be reading Neil Postman, you'll be agreeing with him. Then you'll be complaining about "kids these days," and telling everybody how much better things were back in the day, before God told you to go preach repentance to the Ninevites.
Matti: correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't itsevarmuus a BAD thing in Finnish? Like being conceited, full of yourself? That sign wouldn't be translated as, say "Don't be so self-confident," right? That's one a them faux amis thingies.

hi there doug! your translation is 100%.
why it is so natural a statement up here to forbid someone head on from being confident, science does not know.

Matti,
Back when I lived in Finland, I used to laugh at the fact that the Finnish language does not allow you to be happy about self-confidence. The culture defines it as a bad thing.
You seem to be doing okay, though. I guess the answer is irony, hm?
