woppa returns
so last saturday we played a reunion gig at the ystävyysrock 2005 private backyard rock festival (audience total in the dozens). it was also our first gig ever, so w00t and a half! we chose to perform our most seriously deconstructed stuff that never had live instruments planned in, for which we rehearsed the live performance part once, earlier that week, for like an hour. it was like nothing could conceivably go wrong, and easily the most fuckyou-ish idea we've had since submitting a song to the eurovision song contest (which rest assured didn’t get very far in the process).
the opening track (mp3) basically consists of an endless monotone synth-bip A staccato punctuated by the university of jericho recreational drug special interest group brass ensemble, unexpected violent loop bits, and some synth-poke amputee riffs. the live aspect was jari's motif jinx ambience work plus my occasional creep-y power chord exclamation. without any idea of how the fuck an audience would deal, the track's four minutes were long like Long Now clock long. so when it turned out least some people like seriously liked it, it was like, huh, and also: whoa.
the following and final track (mp3) was basically microwaved [frantique + joan jett + the osmonds + dead can dance] -> minced in a blender -> reduced in a saucepan -> chilled in escher's ice cube tray. of course the remix process boiled most of the electric guitars out so i had plenty of room to maneuver with my four remaining power chords. improv, natch, but still the song was maybe a bit too easy listening.
i know by this point you're wondering, so: yes we are available for weddings.

NOTE: Unfortunately I have had to close comments on this site, despite the amazingly warm words people have left on this page in Lav's (Ravi's) memory. Please contact me directly at the email address keltanen [at] gmail [dot] com if you wish to add a few words to others' here. -m
