5 things

I was challenged by Peter to come up with five things most people don't know about me in blog tag. thing one you encounter once you start enumerating your candidate factoids is: "most people" is a nebula. groups like your ATL light-of-day professional contacts, your current close friends, your eternal close friends, family, and various other nexus are bound to have different uncharted territories about you.

so just to keep things interesting, i will focus on things i usually don't talk about.

1. i become functionally deaf at random times.
(i guess a few of you will prolly know this already, so let's get it out of the way first.)

emphatically not kidding here, and this is not easy to explain. but if two of the following conditions are present, chances are i contract acute auditory agnosia: very low blood sugar, high tiredness, and noise. once it happens i can't make out word one of speech, and it's incredibly frustrating when people say things to you but to you is just phonetic noise and all of a sudden you're in a unilateral imcomunicado bubble.

ok that's pretty tame so let's go on to:

2. i've sold drugs to a minor.

this is one of those things that are either abominable, criminal and reputation-killing, or not really worthy of even mentioning, depending on your personal point of view, but yeah.. i seem to recall that in my stint of growing pot and selling some of it, some did end up in underaged hands. i wasn't much older myself and nobody had or has developed an issue since.

3. there are more microbial organisms living inside of me than there are humans on the planet.

this is true for you as well as me, but hey, weird huh.

4. at 27, i'm suddently developing an erratic, confrontational streak.

now, so far in my life, i've been uncompromisingly diplomatic and always tried to diffuse any tension that might arise between people. mostly because i've been uncomfortable with confrontation myself. all of a sudden i've grown to realize it's not only game-theoretically and phylogenetically mandated, it's actually kind of fun.

in the last 24 hours as of this writing, i've picked the two first fights of my life so far - one with a bellicose animal, which was simply fun, one with a good friend, which was more of a relationship-questioning event. neither was serious or hateful, but here's the rub: i felt strangely comfortable and in control with aggression.

neither photo shows the aggro moments, they came later in both instances. i eventually stood down both times, for what it's worth, because hey: could i really fight either one of those guys?

5. they're mine.

Tightie whities
the famous theatrical tighty-whities from tales from the attic

okay, so i was in kuwait, and because long story, i hadn't much in terms of luggage. and it was 50°C outside, i was at souk sharq, and for all i could tell, all kuwaiti guys wear these things, because that's all they got.

steve, yeah, they've been worn in extreme heat. sorry about that :)

you're it.

UPDATE later on: i just thought of another one: i could have mentioned (you know, say, instead of the felony) that i submitted these to Mcsweeney's Lists once, but they weren't published.

oh well.
