final cleaning solution
"Naturally the common people don't want to clean their toilets; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship."
now i know it's unfair to read it out of context but this was found in lidl, a german store. for real.

another book of the month
they figured out the word frequencies of best-selling books' titles, and then this guy worked out the formula and he's taking bets that in a year a book with this title couldn't help but end up on every 12-year old girl's shelf (even though it's actually about AIDS)

development in the projects
when you sign up for a lecture on product development approaches you expect coffee in paper cups, cheap modernist spaces and verdana. not a crime scene from max payne.

help wanted: have you seen this picture
the above pic snuck into my phone (or lifeblog software) about one hour after i unpacked the box and started using it*. i don't recall taking it--sure, i jetpacked to pasila at around that time, but i didn't take aerial photos.
has anybody else seen this pic somewher? where does it come from?
how, in general, do these weird foreign objects get lodged in peoples' consumer electronics?
* i'm really liking the phone so far, god bless the little bastard, but getting it to work with my pc was really way, way too much of a hassle. there's a glimpse of the process documented at the ever-entertaining fish.
